Proper storage is key to keeping your chestnuts fresh. To maintain their quality, store them in the coldest part of your refrigerator, ideally in the mesh bag they came in. Chestnuts contain up to 60% water and are highly perishable, so the right conditions are essential. Aim for a temperature between 33 to 34 degrees Fahrenheit. While it’s best to enjoy them within two weeks, they can last up to three weeks if stored in cool, humid conditions. We recommend taking them out of the fridge a day or two before eating so the chestnuts can cure.
The bags we provide allow the chestnuts to breathe, reducing the risk of spoilage from trapped moisture. For added protection, you might place a paper towel beneath the chestnuts to absorb any excess moisture. Proper care ensures you get the most out of your fresh chestnuts!
Delivery time is typically 2 to 5 business days depending on where we ship to. In order to deliver before the weekend, we may wait to ship your order on a Monday or Tuesday. (e.g., an order placed on a Friday will be shipped the following Monday). Please keep this in mind when ordering
Using a sharp knife, make an incision in the shape of an X about 1/8-inch deep through each chestnut shell, just into the flesh of the nut. After slitting the shells, transfer the chestnuts to a roasting pan and roast in a 350-degree oven for about 35 minutes. While the chestnuts are hot, remove and discard each shell and the papery skin.
We are unable to ship to California, Oregon, or Washington as the agricultural regulations of these states do not permit American chestnut plant material to be imported from another state.
